Cooking dinner for Trina had become a semi-regular thing for Kim. He was a bit concerned that she worked so hard in the evenings and didn't have time to eat home cooked meals. Not that she didn't eat healthy, but the excuse that she needed home cooked meals was what he went with. Kim may have been burning a bit of a torch for Trina Moon. Like... the Olympic Torch that they lit to start the games sized torch.

He had promised himself this year he was going to do something about that. She was his best friend and he hadn't felt this way about anyone since Abby. That had ended horribly but the fact that he cared so much about Trina even after the Abby mess just made him think it was even more meant-to-be. Okay, maybe not meant-to-be because she could totally not want that, but it made him less afraid than he thought he would be.

It was essentially his entire New Year's Resolution List. He'd made a list and written it down.

Kim's New Year's Resolutions
1) Ask Trina out on a date.
2) Date Trina?
3) Maybe kissing Trina?

He had all year though, so no need to rush things, right? Because turning it down would be... maybe not a disaster? It wouldn't be the first time a girl had turned him down but they were still friends.

Anyway, tonight was dinner at his apartment and he was cooking Kimchi Jjigae, Kimchi Stew. It was his Aunt's recipe which meant it was absolutely amazing. Stew was easy to do because he could just leave it warming on the stove. On nights they ate together Trina was allowed to show up whenever she wanted and could work on work while here. Kim was pretty sure she'd never agree to it otherwise but that was alright. It was just awesome to hang out with her.

Making sure his little table was set he hung up his apron and collapsed back onto the couch before he texted Trina.

How is work going? Am I gonna need to get out some Soju for you to go with dinner?

It felt amazing to be performing with the band again. Even after having to do wardrobe, hair, and makeup just for a little pre-show he still felt in a great mood. The pre-show had been a blast and even the smaller crowd had excited him, all the people screaming or singing along. It was the best.

His band mates were super cool about it too. It had always been a worry that after Kim left, even though he still wrote for them, there would be some resentment. But if there had been it had faded by now. Their new singer was decent (although Kim had to admit that he probably wasn't quite as good as Kim had been) was glad to have him there, especially since Kim reassured him that it was just a temporary thing.

The crowd had gone nuts seeing him though, which was nice. He always loved performing so to have everyone react so positively to his presence was a bit weight lifted off the his shoulders. This was going to be awesome.

With the concert and meet and greet all done they didn't have anything to do really until the concert tomorrow. Heading back stage he went to find Trina.

"Hey, how did it sound from back here?" he asked when he found her. All those screaming fans but Kim would always prize the thoughts of someone like Trina more than a crowd of people he didn't know. "Did you have a good time?"

Kim wasn't even sure how he'd gotten to his music studio. It was probably a stupid place to go because if Abby wanted to find him to try and talk to him this was probably where she would look. He hoped though that she would leave him alone like he had asked. Not that she was so great on doing that, apparently.

At the thought of it a fresh wave of nausea swept through him. Fortunately he had already thrown up enough times that there wasn't nothing left for him to be sick with. After the nausea came the anger quickly followed by the hurt.

How could she do that to him? How could she do that to him for the entire time they'd been seeing each other? Was it his fault for making her wait so long before having sex? She said that she was okay with it though. But of course she was, she was having all the sex she wanted with-

His stomach roiled again and the pinpricks of tears stung at his eyes. This time instead of holding back Kim just sobbed and let them out. He wasn't even sure how long he sat in his chair crying but by the time he was done both his eyes and his throat hurt. Wiping the tears away his eyes fell on the liquor cabinet he kept in the studio. A drink, a lot of drinks, sounded really good right now. So would someone to talk to though.

Kim glanced between the cabinet and his phone several times before deciding that fuck it, he could have both if he wanted. Grabbing his phone he texted the three people closest to him.

Lost my virginity to my girlfriend last night. Found out this morning she's been cheating on me. Free drinks at Siren Sound, I'm starting now.

He didn't care how pathetic any of them might find the idea of him losing his virginity at this age was (although he was sure Davin and Audrey probably already knew) he just wanted company and people who knew what they were getting into. After that he grabbed a bottle of Scotch and opened it up. Who cared if it was barely 10:30 AM on Saturday? Kim was going to get really drunk.
phoenixfalling: (Default)
Kim was excited. He was excited and not nervous, which was kind of surprising. Abby had been so patient though and they had gradually worked up to more and more stuff that this seemed perfectly natural. Exciting, but not nerve wracking. Okay, maybe a little nerve wracking when he thought about the fact that he was finally going to lose his virginity but he cared about Abby and just... she was right, the time was right.

He didn't try to do anything cheesy like do a super romantic dinner, although he kind of wanted to, but that didn't seem like Abby at all. Instead he had rented a room at a nice little bed and breakfast (because her place was kind of crappy and he still lived with his aunt) for their first time. Because this was important to Kim and while he knew Abby thought he was crazy about waiting so long for his first time she hadn't pressured him or anything.

Once he was checked in Kim impatiently waited in the room. Abby was helping one of her friends, Ed, work through some computer troubles. Apparently being a super computer tech meant your friends constantly asked you for help with their computer. She complained about it but Kim liked that she was willing to help people out.

After checking for about the millionth time to make sure that, yes, the box of condoms he had bought was still in the night stand (and debating on whether he should practice putting one on), he settled for texting Abby to just let herself in before flopping back onto the bed and waiting for Abby to get there.
phoenixfalling: (Hand On Chin)
This had been a really impulsive and possibly terrible idea. As much as Kim liked Abigail- and he liked her a lot- he didn't really know her that well. Probably not well enough to hop on a plane and fly across the country to be there for her after her mother had died. But Abigail had said she wished he was there so in good conscience could he really turn her down when he had the means to go?

In hindsight he probably should have gotten a cab from the airport though because the car ride with Sam was super, super awkward. Aside from the other guy staying his name they hadn't really spoken much. It was made 10 times more awkward by knowing that this guy- who looked like the mold for a teen action hero star- had a history with Abigail. And Kim had a... a something with her. A present and a future? Ugh. Worst. Car ride. Ever.

When they finally got to their destination Kim was all too eager to hop out of the car. All he wanted to do was find Abigail and just hold her or whatever it was she wanted him to do. He was here for her after all, right?

Kim wasn't exactly working on Christmas Eve. The studio was open but he had mostly closed the record portion of it so that he wasn't really bothered by customers. Wren had agreed to come in and do some recording and play with him a bit so he had invited some friends over to hang out as well.

It was his first time really collaborating with another artist since he had left Phoenix Falling and was a bit nervous. Wren was incredibly good at what he did and capable of amazing versatility of sound and style. While what Wren and Kim did weren't exactly world's apart stylistically it was different enough to make Kim initially question if he had the chops to work with someone so different. He hoped that having some of his and Wren's friends around would make for a more relaxed atmosphere. Basically if anyone wanted to listen to a recording session or even be a part of one was invited so Kim wouldn't feel so inadequate.

Heck, if anyone got curious and just wandered through the front door they were welcome. He had hot cocoa and Christmas goodies in the lounge for anyone that wanted to stop by and hang. Basically Kim was just going to go with the flow and see what happened and who showed up. Hopefully there would be a bit of a celebration but if everyone was too busy and it was just he and Wren messing around that was fine too.

[Open to all, come hang out with Wren and/or Kim at Siren Sound!]

PB Change

This is just a quick note that I've changed Kim's PB to Taec-yeon, who better fits my ideal of what Kim looks like.

The fog was unusually thick that night but that didn't bother Kim all that much. He knew that as long as he listened for the waves he wouldn't accidentally wonder into the ocean or something like that. He'd been planning to go home immediately after but for some reason he felt like going for a walk. It was the perfect night for it if you were dressed warm enough and he was. The sense of complete tranquility he felt was a rare one. It was so peaceful that he didn't even regret not grabbing his notebook.

He'd been walking for a while when he saw a familiar outline in the fog, one shuffling along that shouldn't have been down here by the beach.

"Auntie?" Kim asked, completely confused. For a moment he was worried that something was wrong. She should have been asleep by now, back at home. Why was she out and about here? "Auntie, what are you doing up?"

"Oh, I just wanted to see you," she said, smiling up at him and patting his cheek fondly. "I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you. Of getting into that fancy school, then your band, and how your recording studio. I'm so proud of you."

Kim's eyes went wide. He knew that his grandmother loved in, he knew that. But never in her life had she ever said she was proud of him. Oh, she talked all the time about how proud she was of his brother, almost endlessly, but Kim had never heard those words from her about him.

"R- really?" he asked, not even struggling to fight back the tears that pricked at his eyes. "You're proud. You mean it?"

"Oh of course. I always have been," she said, pulling him down to kiss the top of his head. "And your parents would be too, Kim Yoo."

He tried to say something but there was a lump in his throat. His aunt and brother never talked about his parents and he had always wondered what they would think of him. And now he knew. Now he knew and for some reason he felt so, so tired. But that didn't seem to matter too much though, as his eyes drifted closed, because now he knew...

Siren Sound wasn't officially open or anything. There was still some work to be done but it was too nice of a day to keep the doors closed and stay cooped up inside. The air was brisk but bearable so he had the door to the record shop/recording studio while he continued to get things set up. Music was pumping through the speakers and he half-danced as he moved around the space he had rented along the boardwalk.

The front portion was a small record store that housed an eclectic variety of albums that would probably sell decently. A small portion would go to actual collectors and people who appreciated them and the rest would go to hipsters and people who just liked having rare records just to have them. Either way was fine with Kim.

The real purpose of the place was to be a recording studio. He didn't care if hardly anyone ever rented out the space, he just wanted somewhere it was possible to record and mix music if he wanted to. There were various gold and platinum records and industry awards around the stupid and mixing booth to lend it an air of gravitas. Of course, anyone who looked close could see they were almost all for the same band, Phoenix Falling. Still, it looked impressive.

All in all, Kim was really happy with the place. He was going to do some amazing stuff here, he could tell. Once he started actually working of course and not just messing around. For now though it was time for an impromptu singing and dancing session as he set up the record shop portion of the place.

"And I waaaant you to want meeee! I neeeeeed you to neeed meeee!"

[Catch Kim setting up his new recording studio, Siren Sound! Sing. Dance. Give him a hard time, he's up for whatever.]

Kim had been glad that things didn't get weird between him and Riley after he asked her out. She said 'no' and he accepted that and that was that. Things had kind of gone back to how they had been before that, which was nice. That wasn't to say that Kim still didn't have a bit of a crush on her but he knew that it wasn't going anywhere and there was nothing to do but accept it. Besides, Riley was awesome, it wasn't like being her friend was a consolation prize or anything. Being her friend was awesome.

He was also her piano instructor. Kim had found her a decently cheap keyboard to practice on at her place since she didn't have a full on piano and had agreed to bring it over and set it up. The keyboard tucked under one arm and the stand under the other he knocked on the door to her place.

Kim smoothed his hands against his jeans, trying to wipe away the sweat. It was a futile gesture though because the moment he did it his palms started sweating again. He couldn't think of a time he had ever been this nervous before, never when he was performing, he'd have an easier time performing in front of a sold-out stadium than doing this. But Riley was amazing and he really liked her. She seemed to like him too, which was the only reason he was going to give this a shot.

It was just before her shift at Coombs and Co when he walked in, hoping to catch her just before she started, that way if she agree or- more likely- declined there would be an excuse for them to separate. Glancing around he only saw Val so he figured he had a few moments still before Riley showed up.

Scooting around to one of the isle where he hopefully couldn't be seen, Kim pulled out the folded up paper he had written out what he was going to say. He wasn't going to actually read it but he wanted to have it all planned out for when he asked so that when he freaked out he could hopefully power through the words. Glancing down he rehearsed through it one more time, trying to keep his tone completely casual.

"Hey Riley, I was just wondering, if you didn't already have plans, if you'd like to go to the Pumpkin Carving contest together on Tuesday, or if you can't make that maybe for the date night at Francesco's? I think you're pretty amazing and I'd really like to take you out on a date. If not, no worries, but I'd regret it if I didn't at least ask."

He took another deep breath. It was short and to the point and not ramble-y or desperate.

"It does sound alright, right?" he muttered to himself, scratching the back of his head. Why was this so difficult?
phoenixfalling: (Rock Star)
The groups of kids all gathered in the hotel room hardly looks like what you'd expect to make up what some are calling "the great new rock band of the decade." They look more like they'd be at home in the 90s, among a host of mass produced, almost cookie-cutter boy bands (plus one girl). The instant they start talking music though, you realize that this group might actually be as good as critics are claiming.

Straddling the line somewhere between Fall Out Boy and Queen, Phoenix Falling exploded onto the scene a little over a year ago. )
phoenixfalling: (Amused)
Kim was super excited. Probably weirdly excited if he had to be honest, but it was a good way. The nervousness that was accompanying the excitement wasn't so great, however. Whenever he thought of Riley or being around Riley he got all flustered. He was almost frustrated by how awesome she was just because... well she was really awesome. Once he was around her he was fine, like he was too excited to be in her presence to worry about anything else.

It was just leading up to seeing her that was difficult. Tonight would be fun though, because tonight was karaoke night at Coombs Tavern and Riley and Val were supposed to go with him. Or at least meet him there. That was why he'd been at a table for half an hour, having arrived early just to make sure he could get one. It was good planning but unfortunately meant a lot of anxiously waiting around for Riley and Val to show up.

Still, this was going to be fun. There was nothing he loved more than performing and he had texted and called a few other people to invite them as well since it was a group thing. Not that it was any guarantee they would show up, he wasn't the most social person. You never knew who might show up though.

[Anyone is welcome to join in for karaoke night! Be someone Kim texted or maybe the friend of someone he texted that invited your character. Or just be there because karaoke is fun.]
phoenixfalling: (Casual)
Kim had spent the last few days painting his room. It didn't need paint but he had needed the practice if he was going to help Riley. Not just because he didn't want Riley to think he was completely incompetent but also because he didn't want part of the museum to look like crap because he sucked at painting.

He had pulled out an old, long-sleeve button up shirt to hide his tattoos and minimize the amount of damage he might do to any of the clothes he wore. If there was anything he learned the last few days it was that painting was really messy. He was pretty sure he still might have some blue paint in his hair somewhere.

He was at the pie shop-turned museum a bit early and spent five minutes just walking back and fourth, trying to calm himself. He should be able to handle something like this. Riley was super nice and friendly and he had enjoyed talking to her. But he got all flustered when he thought about it, wishing for the millionth time that he had been able to be more social in high school so he knew how to be himself around a girl like that. It was easy to fake it but that wasn't the same.

Taking a deep breath he knocked on the door. There was nothing to be nervous about, he was just helping out a new friend. No big deal.
phoenixfalling: (Casual)
All too often Kim got lost in his own thoughts. Since his own thoughts were almost always of music, he found himself lost in the random soundtrack of his own life at times. Headphones in as he walked downtown it started with just a nod of his head and graduated to the tapping of his hands on his jeans to the beat of the music. A short time later and the rest of his body followed suit and he was half-dancing, half-walking along the street.

If he had been aware of it Kim would have been mortified. In his everyday life he did his best to not draw attention to himself. If he could be invisible, that would be awesome. Unfortunately that wasn't the sort of thing he was capable of.

He didn't even notice what was going on until he was rounding a corner on the street and almost ran into someone also turning the corner. Kim quickly skipped and spun out of the way to avoid the collision, feeling his stomach sink when he realized what he was doing.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry," he said, pulling off his headphones and holding out a hand to steady the person he had almost run into. "I- I'm so sorry, I, uh, I wasn't looking where I was going."

[Be the person he almost bumped into or just witness him dance-walking down the street.]
phoenixfalling: (Face On Hand)
Kim is 23 years old and has lived in Siren's cove from about age 3 until he was 18 when he left for college. He attended the public high school where he was a standout theatre student as well as a very talented musician and singer.

He's shy but friendly and is pretty good at faking being social if he's forced to, so it's entirely possible that your character has met him before.

You also might recognize/know Kim as Ken Young, the lead singer of the rock band Phoenix Falling (think Fallout Boy meets Queen). A massively popular and very hyped (some say over-hyped) band the last two years, Kim was the front man/lead singer. The onstage persona of Ken was very different from Kim so it's understandable if you don't recognize him but your character is welcome to figure it out.

CHARACTER NAME: Kim Yoo/Ken Young
CHARACTER AGE: 23
SPECIES: Siren
BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Kim’s family was originally from South Korea, although he and his brother emigrated to the US when Kim was still very young after his parent’s died. Too young to really remember them Kim had to rely on his older brother’s stories of his parents. His older brother was reluctant to talk about what happened to his parents and not being much older than Kim he didn’t really remember a lot about them either.

After the death of his parents Kim and his brother moved to Siren Cove to live with his Great Aunt Seohyun. Considerably older than both boys she took them in all the same, )
PERSONALITY: Kim is an introvert, shy and preferring to keep to himself. He’d rather stay at home and practice an instrument than hang out at a party. Music doesn’t seem like work to him, it’s how he relaxes and recharges and lets his emotions out. To him it almost comes as natural as breathing, one of those people who can pick up an instrument and fool around with it and in a short amount of time have a decent amount of skill at it.

Despite being an introvert, Kim loves to perform for an audience.  )
